We are presently evaluating Task Manager. One issue we have is that once the laptop is off the network, we do not have access to the database (obviously). Is this where Team To Do comes in? Can remote users sync with the Task Manager database? How would this be accomplished?
Thanks! |

Thanks for the reply. While you are thinking of offline access, please also consider Palm sync as well. We would likely give a relatively unimportant body part for a Palm app that allows a user to keep track of his/her to do list while in the field (think Treo 650/700). |

We would like to have an additional selection added to the Status field in Task Manager to indicate one is waiting on someone else, similar to the choice in Team To Do. |

It appears that a task "Owner" in TM Pro is the person who enters a task into the database. It there a way to reassign ownership, so a different person can be "responsible" for the task, even though the actual work is being done by other resources? Also, being able to assign the correct "Owner" allows for transparency, everyone knows who is ultimately responsible for the task. |

Serge,
Modifying the ownership for a task is important to us because we frequently have team meetings where we discuss our projects. During these meetings, we have one team member acting as a scribe, taking notes and, now, assigning tasks. So, depending on who is logged in to Team Manager, that person becomes the owner of a wide variety of tasks, most of which have nothing to do with that person.
Our office dynamic is not particularly linear, I am not always the boss of Joe, and Joe is not always the boss of me. Having an inflexible supervisor model doesn't do us much good. What would work well is to have an assignable ownership field so that person is notified of a particular task's milestones, even though they are not the assigned resource.
Is there a way to create a custom field (call it Supervisor) that will:
1) utilize Task Manager users as the parameter to be chosen
2) allow notification of that user?

Is there a way to print extended notes that will include additional task information like Task Name, Assignment, Status, Completion percentage?
It seems that comprehensive notes are truncated when printing from any view but the "Notes" view. In the "Notes" view, however, all that is printed is the actual note, without including even the task name.
Is this just something that needs to be set up correctly? |

We've been evaluating the Standard edition of Task Manager for the past week and see the value of the "tree" organizational structure in the Professional version. I would like to upgrade my database and users to the professional version, but do not see that addressed. Is there a FAQ or best practices somewhere? |

Due to our lag, I went ahead and upgraded the group. I found that you must uninstall the Standard version first - particularly for the server. While both versions run fine side by side, when you uninstall the standard, certain files or registry settings (I'm not sure which) are removed during the uninstall process. This disables the Professional version as well, requiring a reinstall.
I found this out after the fact for the server module. The good news, after uninstalling the Standard version, I copied the database from the "Standard" install subdirectory to the "Professional" database subdirectory. After reinstalling the Professional server module and pointing the server to the correct database, the clients accessed it without problem. Initially, the "Standard" database that I opened in professional did not populate the Task Tree view. This was solved by double clicking parent items in the Task Group window (in the Task List tab). |
