Topic: «Ability to add recurring tasks» on forum: Feature Requests (VIP Task Manager)

I need to be able to have tasks reoccur at regular intervals (eg every weekday, once a week, once a month, quarterly and so on).

This is a big omission in what so far looks like an excellent product.

I would like to be able to import tasks from other files, eg Lotus Organiser, Excel or just plain text files.

I see there is an Import from VPXML option, but I can't find any documentation on how to do this.

This is a barrier to allowing us to migrate to your software.

It would be very useful to be able to edit fields shown in the Task list directly instead of having to open the task via "Edit Task"/double clicking. Eg I may want to change the Due date for a task, it would be nice to be able to do this by selecting the field and typing in the new value.

A compromise would be for the Edit Task dialogue to open but with the field that was double clicked in context.

Hi Serge,

I can see the benefits in such a feature, for example - drop an agenda (eg Word Doc) to create a meeting, assign task to those attending etc...

However, my point of view is that this wouldn't be quite as useful as being able to create multiple tasks via import of Text/Excel documents. So please develop this before turning your attention to drag and drop! Cool

Hi,

I'm not the original poster but I'd find such feature useful too. I see your point about this being a planning tool though it does have at least "one foot" in the tracking role - there's little point tracking a task that can't be progressed until a parent tast is completed.

We don't use MS Project on our team so such a feature would be doubly valuable to us!

Would it be possible to add an option for different date formats to display on the task list?

Particularly useful would be

ddd dd/mm/yyyy [excel-speak!]

so the day of the week can be seen eg Mon - Sun.

It would be great if this was possible - behaviour similar to MS Excel's sort would be good.

If the addition of advanced sorting isn't immediately possible perhaps the the default behaviour could be improved...

What I would like to see happen is if I sort by column A and then sort by column B, I should see the the column A sort still present in the items within the B sort.

At the moment if I sort by column A and then sort by column B, I get the the column B sort but items within this sort take on (what is I assume) a random sort order.

I hope I'm making sense! If not try sorting first by Status and then by Priority. I'd like to see all the similar Status tasks grouped together within the Priority sort.

Finally, and this is a minor point, does anyone agree that sorting by Priority should put the highest priority jobs at the top of the list instead of the bottom? I know you can reverse this by clicking the heading a second time but the current behaviour seems backwards to me!

Victoria,

So simple and so useful!

Thanks for your reply.

Topic: «Run SQL Queries against the Database» on forum: Feature Requests (VIP Task Manager)

Is it currently or are there any plans to make it possible to run SQL queries against the Task Manager database?

I can think of a number of situations where it would be useful for us to do this. If we implement Task Manager on our team we see it replacing a large database of daily tasks to be completed by team members. In migrating from our existing database to Task Manager the ability to run SQL reports would make it easier to confirm that all tasks had been migrated.

Another example (just off the top of my head) would be if a Team member was to leave. SQL would be a simple way to assign all of their jobs to the person replacing them (though whether you'd want to allow users to update the database from outside the application is another matter!)

Or how about the all-too-frequent task of rolling missed deadlines into the future... Embaressed

We also use Business Objects here; perhaps it could be possible to use this as a reporting tool? I understand that not all users would be able to benefit from such features but for some of us this would be very powerful.
