Message:
When I use a filter that selects one or more assigned resources no tasks are displayed in the agenda view. (Even selecting the resource named 'Unassignment' won't display any tasks). Our employees always use such a filter in the 'Tasks list' to find their tasks, so when they switch to the Calendar view it will be empty. We have to clear our filter to be able to use the calendar view. Looks like a bug to me.

Regards,

Geert
Message:
I get an error message "The operation failed" when I try to import tasks from Outlook. I think the problem has to do with the settings of Outlook, or the fact it is used with Exchange Server.

When I try it with Outlook at home (no exchange server) it seems to work OK.

Also, is there a way to "promote" a task to the role of a task group?

What I am trying to do is import a list of task groups from MS Project to VIP TM. I can get the list imported into Outlook as tasks (via a CSV file), but can't seem to get VIP to import them (because of the problem above at work) into VIP. Your help would be greatly appreciated, as we have several thousand task/groups we need to get into VIP.

How to let employees only see their assigned tasks in a group??? on Troubleshooting (VIP Task Manager)

Message:
I'm trying to figure out a way to allow employees to see their tasks under a task group, but not see other employees tasks in that task group. I have individually set permissions on a task by task basis and the employee still cannot see the task even though they have view/edit permissions. If I give them permission for the task group as well as the specific task, then the employee can suddenly see ALL of the tasks in the task group EVEN if individual tasks have their permission listed as "deny."

After chatting with the support tech, I tried setting up task sub-groups for each employee and giving each of them view/edit permissions for their task sub-group; however, they still cannot see the task unless the parent task group gives them permission.

How do I get this to work? We really need to find a solution.
At the moment the startup of the application always guides you to the db wizard: is there a possibility to have a drop-down of available db only, without having to specify the server name, this would allow multiple db usage

A reason for avoiding the wizard is that the wizard contains the possibility to create new db's by everyone, which is not good
Message:
VIP Task Manager 3.5.1 (Build 523) will not send e-mail notifications if a resource name contains a comma.

Our department set up resources for each individual, in the form "LastName, FirstName". We enabled e-mail notifications, and setup the SMTP settings on the server, but we were not receiving any notifications by e-mail. The test e-mail worked fine.

I setup a Wireshark network capture, and noticed that all of the e-mails were being addressed to "LastName", with no e-mail address. Then, I peeked into the Firebird database, and saw that the addresses in the e-mail table were listed as "LastName, FirstName <firstname.lastname@domain.com>". After I manually modified these addresses to "FirstName LastName <firstname.lastname@domain.com>", VIP successfully sent out e-mail notifications.

Dual monitor problem with 3.5 on Troubleshooting (VIP Task Manager)

Title: Dual monitor problem with 3.5 Panels dissappear
Forum: Troubleshooting (VIP Task Manager)
Message:
We all use dual monitors in our workgroup. (All XP Pro, Service Pack 2) . We've found it very convenient to position all the panels on the second monitor leaving the primary monitor for the main task window only. This worked flawlessly with VIP 3.0.

However, since the upgrade to VIP 3.5, we have noticed a consistent problem. We can position the panels on the second monitor just fine and they work as expected. Once we have minimized VIP to the task tray and then open it again from the task tray, the panels on the second monitor blink, then disappear. We can bring them back only by turning each panel off from the main menu view command, then turning each back on again. Panels will then appear on the second monitor, stay there, and work fine, until we minimize VIP to the task tray again.

Since we like to have all the panels in their own separate window so we can see notes, notifications, attachments, resources, and comments simultaneously, this is a lot of turning off and on of panels every time we minimize. Is this a bug in 3.5 that can be easily fixed, or should we be looking for another solution?
Brooks
Message:
Windows XP will not shut down or restart with VIP Task Manager in the System Tray. I have VIP Task Manager to minimize to the system tray. Most staff members have it set this way. A user cannot shut down windows when the VIP task manager is in the system tray. Most program will automatically terminate when restart or shut down is selected. It would be helpful if VIP task manager did the same. Thanks, Craig

 Title: Cancel only one reoccurrence
Forum: Troubleshooting (VIP Task Manager)
Message:
We have several reoccurring task set up. For example, one member of our office has a meeting every Wednesday afternoon from 1 to 3. This week the meeting was canceled (but the following weeks the meeting is still to happen). When we changed the status to canceled, it canceled the whole recurrence instead of just that days. We went back and changed it to complete, but this doesn't give us an accurate account of what happened. Is there any way to cancel a single occurrence of a reoccurring task? If not we would like to see this feature added in the future.
Hi,

When we enter a recurring task, in this case a weekly one, we can see all the occurrences for every week in the calendar, but only the first occurrence in de task list. Once we set the one in the task list to 'completed', the new one for next week appears.

This way we have to look at both views to make sure that when scheduling tasks, we are not creating double bookings.

Can this be solved?

Thanks!

- Yuri.
We seem to have a problem with the notifications, but only regarding changes in comments. I've double-checked that everyone has comments checked in their user profile / notifications tab. The changed comments are visible when looking at the task. But none of us (who are all listed as active resources for a task) are receiving any notifications when someone adds a new comment. Any suggestions?
Brooks
Why is it that when somebody does something to a task it notifies every user on the resource list? People find this annoying and don't want to keep the program open. Do I have to go into every user's resource and change the notifications or is there an easier way to take care of this problem?
Message:
Hi,

Starting of with the fact that we're still evaluating, it seems that the application is not storing the screen lay-out (panels chosen, location of panels etc.). Let alone store them per user; changing user doesn't show the users settings.

Is this a result of the fact that we're evaluating or not? I must say that we updated to the latest version during the evaluation period. Before it seemed to store the settings.

Thanks!

- Yuri.
Hi,

To me it seems logical to link the field estimated time with the duration of the task when you select a start time and finish time.

My team now has to pay extra attention when entering estimated time and scheduling them on the Calendar view.

Also, when changing time using the Calendar view, by expanding the selection block, should then update the estimated time.

Thanks!

- Yuri.
Hi,

We're evaluating the software and I'm running into some problems. It seems that I can move tasks on the calendar view but this doesn't have any effect on the task details. If I then print the Calendar view I get the details from the task list; unchanged.

Moreover, I can't also update instances from recurring tasks easily. In some cases I can't move them at all in other cases I can't update the start and end time anymore. Not very flexible.

Thanks!

- Yuri.
I did not entered any licence information as i don`t have one and i`m woundering if i buy the software, will i be able to put my licence key? Most of computers have Windows Xp...but i would really like it to work under Vista too. Right now i can get into it.. the error is not crashing my system or something...it`s just annoying.

I hope you know how to resolve this... thank you
