At certain moments, new task windows (when entering a new task) close automatically, the the task is gone and VIP freezes up.

We can't really determine when exactly it happens but it seemed to happen once when a notification was coming in.

We're using version 3.0.1.

Message:
VIP Task Manager 3.5.1 (Build 523) will not send e-mail notifications if a resource name contains a comma.

Our department set up resources for each individual, in the form "LastName, FirstName". We enabled e-mail notifications, and setup the SMTP settings on the server, but we were not receiving any notifications by e-mail. The test e-mail worked fine.

I setup a Wireshark network capture, and noticed that all of the e-mails were being addressed to "LastName", with no e-mail address. Then, I peeked into the Firebird database, and saw that the addresses in the e-mail table were listed as "LastName, FirstName <firstname.lastname@domain.com>". After I manually modified these addresses to "FirstName LastName <firstname.lastname@domain.com>", VIP successfully sent out e-mail notifications.
Forum: Troubleshooting (VIP Task Manager)
Message:
We all use dual monitors in our workgroup. (All XP Pro, Service Pack 2) . We've found it very convenient to position all the panels on the second monitor leaving the primary monitor for the main task window only. This worked flawlessly with VIP 3.0.

However, since the upgrade to VIP 3.5, we have noticed a consistent problem. We can position the panels on the second monitor just fine and they work as expected. Once we have minimized VIP to the task tray and then open it again from the task tray, the panels on the second monitor blink, then disappear. We can bring them back only by turning each panel off from the main menu view command, then turning each back on again. Panels will then appear on the second monitor, stay there, and work fine, until we minimize VIP to the task tray again.

Since we like to have all the panels in their own separate window so we can see notes, notifications, attachments, resources, and comments simultaneously, this is a lot of turning off and on of panels every time we minimize. Is this a bug in 3.5 that can be easily fixed, or should we be looking for another solution?
Brooks
Windows XP will not shut down or restart with VIP Task Manager in the System Tray. I have VIP Task Manager to minimize to the system tray. Most staff members have it set this way. A user cannot shut down windows when the VIP task manager is in the system tray. Most program will automatically terminate when restart or shut down is selected. It would be helpful if VIP task manager did the same. Thanks, Craig
Can I have Taskmanager pro on our server for office team to use and on my laptop so I can carry all current projects with me while out of office. This would allow me to see projects while on road without remote access to server even thoug they would only be as up to date as my last restore. When I return then update or restore the current server database and project status to my laptop files. Then logon to server with laptop to use as a user on server database on days I am in office.
Hello,
i am missing a search option for any keyword in the ProVersion. i know i can search with filters but system only searches in the task-headlines. It would be great if notes and comments and maybe files are considered too.
Can i expect this search-option in the next release? would be cool...to me and my workmates its essentially...then i will absolutely "love" the software

Thanks in advance for your reply...

Regards
Stefan Jacobs
Heyas,

it seems that tasks only show up in the calendar when there is a start/end date/time set. Since i want to use the tool just for task management (not planning, since they all go to external resources) it would be nice to have task with a set "due date" showing up in the calendar, too.

regards
Marc
Message:
Task Groups can be set up several ways: Process-Oriented, Project-Oriented, etc. For my Company, I have set up my Outline as follows:

Company
+ Department
+ Project
+ Task

I would like to be able to prioritize my "Project" Task Groups and then be able to filter on only the higher priority projects and the higher priority tasks within each project in the Task List.

Right now, the software appears to only allow me to prioritize tasks. The problem with this is that when I have a high priority task but it is in a low priority project, it still shows up high on the Task List.

Is there a way for you to add a similar Priority field for Groups as you have now for Tasks?

And then, if so, add an additional Task List Filter for Groups/Priority (ini addition to Common, By Date and By Resource?

I think this would be helpful to a lot of people who are trying to only work on their most important high-priority Projects first, rather than being distracted with tasks from lower-priority Projects.

Thanks!

Calvin

Forum: Feature Requests (VIP Task Manager)
Message:
Below our task tree root we created 3 groups for 3 subdepartments. Each group has a corresponding role to give permissions. Each employee is member of one role and persmissions are set so only one role has acces to a subdepartment. Only general managers are member of all roles so they have access to all subdepartments.

The problem we have is that employees can assign resources from other departments (roles) to a task. These resouces however won't have access to the task. As a result the user who creates a task thinks the tasks will be handled by the resource he assigned, but the resource doesn't know there's a new task.

It would be nice if the resource window of a task would show which permissions the resources have to the task, for example by showing the permissions in a extra column or using a different text color for the resource name. This whay a user who creates a tasks will know he assigns a resource that has no access or only read-only access to the task. If necessary he can notify the resource, for example by sending the task by e-mail.

Thanks,

Geert

It would be nice when selecting a group of tasks to be able to change the "Due Date" for the entire group of tasks after right clicking, similar to how the status and priority can be changed. This feature would be helpful when the due date for a group of tasks needs to be changed - as this is something that gets updated frequently on projects.
Task Filters

Suggested Features:

It would be benefitial to have the ability to deploy a set of task filters to all users to choose from.

It would be benefitial to have the ability to see completed tasks for the current month and then have them filtered.

Task filters should be saved as part of the user's preferences. Forum: Feature Requests (VIP Task Manager)
Message:
We use the 'Estimated time' field on all our tasks to be able to create reports that give us an idea of the total workload. This works fine as long as we specify the estimated times in hours. When specifying this value in days a day in Taskmanager is counted as 24 hours, while our users usually mean work days, which are 8 hours. This makes our reports unusable.

The same issue exists for 'Week', which also counts 24 hours in a day, and 7 days in a week instead of 5 work days. This way 168 hours are accounted for, instead of 40...

Can you translate the 'day'-value to 8 hours instead of 24 hours, or provide another solution to specify the number of hours in a day? Same question for the week-value.

Maybe you can add 'Work day' (= 8 hours) and 'Work week' (= 40 hours) as new time specifiërs. (Optionally you could give us the possibility to specify the numbers of hours in a 'Work day' and 'Work week' in the programs general preferences)?

Thanks a lot,

Geert
E-mail notifications

You guys have created a very flexible product. I am excited about the use of email and email's ability to increase interactions between staff.

My understanding is that an update will be coming in the next several months which includes e-mail notifications. I have a few suggestions. First, references to tasks in emails should be hyperlinks so the user could just click on the task to go to the task.

1. Have an option for email notifications to be sent in real time and have an option for notifications to be sent as a summary email 1 time per day.

2. The email notification should have the following headings

Notifications

Tasks with a change of status

Tasks overdue (for this user)

Tasks overdue (for watch list resources for this user)

3. Have an option where a supervisor could send out an email for a task status update for all tasks the user is on the watch list.

Thank you for your consideration.

Craig

I would like the ability to save a panel layout preference to a user's login. When a user logs in, their preferred panal layout preferences would be displayed. It might be powerful to save panel layouts based on roles. Supervisors may want one layout type vs. the staff members they supervise.

While the many panels in TMP allows for a significant amount of flexibility, it can be overwhelming to a begining user.

Craig
Maybe I'm missing something, but would like more options for setting Priority, for instance...

1) Set Priority automatically to Lowest when Status is changed to Complete or Archive, so would need this added to Workflow area, I guess???

2) Set Priority on the "fly" without having to Edit Task... the 1 step adjustment up or down you currently offer is time consuming when you need to jump from Urgent to Lowest, for instance.

3) Set Priority on the "fly" for multiple Tasks at a time

Thanks for your continued efforts to improve this program.
Hi,

we would really appreciate to have an improved access to the update of tasks status.
The Complete Percentage is the value that we miss more in the "right click" context menu (as for Change Status submenu or modify Priority).
It is enough to have steps as: 0%,10%,20%,...)

Ideally it would be great to have access to the modification of any column value, directly clicking on that value in the Task List or Task Tree. With a list box or a slide (see photoshop)

Thanks a lot,
Marco
Hi,
in Task List, during filtering, we would like to see only the branches with unfiltered actions.
