Would be nice to have Task Group field already filled in based on whatever folder "group" was selected when creating New Tasks.

Also, can status be set to default "created" instead of "draft"?

Yes, we are going to make something like that. Probably, a highlighting a Task Group in Task Group panel will automatically enter its name to corresponding field when a new task is created.
As for the 'Created' status to be default:
1. Go to menu Tools
2. Select Edit Workflow
3. Highlight 'Draft' status
4. Click on 'Move Down' button
