Views: 190Topic:: «Show tasks with due date in the calendar» on forum: Feature Requests (VIP Task Manager)

When I create and assign tasks for my employees I always set a Due Date. The employees are free to schedule the task by setting Start and End Time. However, because they have a lot of small tasks, in most cases they don't set the Start and End Time. To be able to follow up the tasks it would be nice if tasks with a Due date would show up in the Calendar, so I can check the calendar what needs to be finished in the next days. This would help setting priorities.

Regards,

Geert

Calendar View shows the tasks only with Start and Finish Date because Start and Finish Date presume the concrete duration necessary for calendar. Due Date doesn't show the Start Date, only Finish Date. If the Calendar View showed the tasks by Due Dates there would be a plenty of tasks in your Calendar View making confusing: for example, it would show all tasks beginning from the time of starting using the program to September 31, 2008 which is Due Date.

I strongly agree with Geert, it would be very useful to be able to see tasks in the calendar based strictly on the due date. We have many tasks that take a long time to complete (say several months) and don't want to enter start/end dates because we don't want to see them on every day of the calendar. Instead, we just want to see the date on which the task is due to be completed. Showing only the due date on the calendar would be LESS confusing than showing the duration of every task, especially if the tasks are long. Perhaps there could be an option box to check off if you want the due date for a task shown on the calendar? This is a big issue for our users and we really need this option.

As Carol proposes maybe you can make this an option that you can switch on or off. In our case we won't have the problem that to much tasks will show up in the calendar because:
- we always use filters that hide finished tasks
- we only use due dates for a small set of tasks that have an important deadline. In most cases people work on tasks based on priority.
For me as a manager it's important to have one view with:
- tasks that my people are working on (scheduled tasks with start and end date)
- which tasks need to be delivered (tasks with due date)
Without this view it's not possible to manage work load and to guard the delivery of tasks.
