Views: 692Topic:: «Dependent tasks» on forum: Feature Requests (VIP Task Manager)
#1
I'd like to see a feature that would let me link two (or maybe more) tasks together so that if I have a task B that the person cannot do until task A is complete then I can mark it as Dependent (something I already do by creating a status) and link it to task A so that I know which task needs ot be completed before task B can be done.

I guess a bonus feature to that would be to automatically have the status of task B be updated to In Progress (or its equivalent if a custom workflow is used) once the task it depends on is marked as complete.

Thanks,

Could you please tell us if you use MS Project? The feature you describe is rather for planning than for tracking. Would it be a solution for you if our program could sync with MS Project?

Hi,

I'm not the original poster but I'd find such feature useful too. I see your point about this being a planning tool though it does have at least "one foot" in the tracking role - there's little point tracking a task that can't be progressed until a parent tast is completed.

We don't use MS Project on our team so such a feature would be doubly valuable to us!

I agree with this. Task dependencies would be a nice feature regardless whether MS Project is used or not!

I'm evaluating now. I just sent a practically identical suggestion to the helpdesk, so '+1' for me.

A note: the copy for the professional edition notes among its uses 'planning'. There is a need for this sort of 'planning lite' where MS Project would be sheer overkill.

Same issue over here. We decided to buy TaskManager because MS Project is overkill and less userfriendly.
So:
- We would also like to see task dependencies.
- Sync with MS Projects would be nice for our managers that use Project for high level planning.
